Admission requirement

These consists of the general guidelines as well as general and specific requirements per schools.

GENERAL ADMISSION GUIDELINES

The Guidelines for Admission into BUIB are as follows:

 

  • Admission into BUIB is open to all those seeking knowledge irrespective of nationality, religion, color, sex, race and language.
  • Admission guidelines, policies and regulations are established by the Academic Board (SENATE) of the University.
  • Applicants can obtain admission online at www.biakahc.org/application
  • The Office of Admissions and Enrollment Management uses an individualized, holistic review process to consider each completed application. Taking into account factors such as academic performance, career or vocational goals, relevant experience, language competence and potential success in the program.
  • Admission decisions are made on the basis of the information submitted as part of the student’s application. Applicants who believe that supplemental items will help convey information about their qualifications are encouraged to submit such items along side their printed applications.
  • Admission into BSc and HND programs in the School of Health Sciences is by a competitive entrance exam written on the BUIB campus on an announced date. This exam includes both written and orals. The exams are marked and results of successful candidates are published on the notice board. Students are also informed by email or text on their progress.
  • Entry into the State Registered Nursing program, State Registered Midwifery and Nursing Assistant is by competitive exams organised by the Ministry of Public Health. Students who wish to enroll in the aforementioned programs should visit the Ministry of Public Health or the Delegation of Public Health.
  • BUIB offers direct entry into undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the Schools of Management Sciences and Education. Entry into postgraduate programs in the School of Health Sciences is by direct entry.

 

Students should have a vocation or love for what they intend to study. Upon submission of their Application File , students are expected to include a one page essay which justifies their passion for the chosen field of study and other useful information such as:

  • Pre-existing experience in the Program.
  • Prior learning including formal, informal, and non-formal in the field of choice.
  • Candidates are also expected to provide two (2) references that can be contacted to provide additional information on the candidate.
  • Candidates must have passed at least Four (4) subjects at the GCE Ordinary Level or Probatoire and at least Two (2) subjects at the GCE Advanced Level in one seating excluding Religion.
  • Passed in Baccalaureate (General or Technical).
  • Any other Certificate considered by MINESUP Decision spelling out the admission requirements into University.
  • Candidates will be required to show proof that they can undertake their studies in English.
  • For Foreign students who have no knowledge of English, they will be expected to register for and undergo the Intensive Vocational Competence Program prescribed by BUIB.

ADMISSION PROCEDURES

Students can apply online via the Online Application Portal or can apply on Campus. International Students who wish to be enrolled in either undergraduate or post graduate programs of the Institution should email their credentials and state their program of interest to buib_ca@biakahc.org 

At BUIB Campus A, Bokoko – Buea 

Attend a counseling session on campus with our Academic Counselors.

Once you are decided on your program of choice, visit the admission Office with the following documents;

  • Certified copies of your Certificates ( Advanced Level certificate/ Slip, Ordinary Level Certificate, Higher National Diploma, Bachelor Degree/Attestation). The document presented differs depending on your program (undergraduate or graduate program).
  • Certified Copy of your Birth Certificate
  • Photocopy of your National Identity Card
  • Two (2) Passport size photographs

CHANGE OF SCHOOL/PROGRAM AND ADDING AND DROPPING OF COURSES.

Candidates are allowed to change their Schools/Programs provided they fulfill the following conditions:

  • Application for change of School/Program shall be considered at the end of the First/Freshman Year and shall only take effect from the beginning of the next Academic Year after approval by the Provost. In the case of HND, application shall be considered at the end of First Semester and shall only take effect from the beginning of the Second Semester after approval by the Provost.
  • Applicants shall address an application letter to the Vice Provost Academics applying for the change of School/ Program and should be endorsed by any of the parents/guardians which should include his/her phone number and a photocopy of ID Card.
  • A student who is authorized to transfer from one School/ Program to another shall first fulfill the entry requirements for the School/program or in which he/she prefers to be admitted.
  • If he/she had earned some credit(s) in the former School/Program, they would be transferred if necessary to the new School/Program.
  • Transfer from School of Health Sciences to Management Sciences has no financial implications.
  • Transfer from School of Management Sciences to School of Health Sciences is not acceptable.
  • Pay the relevant financial charges to the University’s Principal Cashier.
  • A student can add or drop courses on their list of registered courses, within two weeks from that start of lectures.

REGISTRATION OF STUDENTS

Registration is first done at the level of the Office of Admission and Enrollment Management which examines the students’ academic records. Then the admitted students have to comply with the requirement of the Finance Office and are equally registered at the level of the Office of Exams and Records. Thereafter, the admitted student goes to their Schools for Course Registration.

LATE REGISTRATION

Any student who comes to register after the close of Admissions, shall first pay the sum of 5000FCFA into the University’s Bank Account before the application for late registration can be considered.

TUITION REFUND

Excess Fee Payment Refund

In case of excess fee paid by Freshmen, the students will not be entitled to any refund, thus the excess fee will be credited to the student’s account for the next academic year.

Withdrawal from BUIB

Refund of fee paid shall be done only within a month from official start of Lectures at BUIB.

The student shall receive 60% of fee paid as refund for that academic year.

After a month from the official start of Lectures at BUIB, there shall be no refund of fee paid upon withdrawal from BUIB.

Students who are admitted after a month from official start of Lectures shall not be due refund of fee paid upon withdrawal.
