BUIB Board of Trustees Adopts Plan for 2020/2021.

The 2020/2021 plan of action for Biaka University Institute of Buea has been approved. This acceptance was during the 2020/2021 first Board of Trustees meeting which took place on Saturday November 28th at the conference hall of BUIB aimed at mapping a way forward for the institution as it takes on the new academic year.

The Board Chair and Vice Chancellor Dr. Mrs Francisca Hongla Biaka while thanking board members for their commitment in ensuring the sustainability of the complex, presented the increase in the number of students as a key area to be looked into by the board to ensure that the provision of quality services is not being compromised with the increasing number of students.

Focusing on the provision of quality services to students, the management presented the construction of three amphitheaters with a hosting capacity of 336 students each, as one of the key activities ongoing to host the rising population of BUIB. The team together visited the construction site which some 40.07% of construction work has been achieved. The amphitheaters projected to be completed by February 2021 would host about 1,008 students taking into consideration the aspect of maintaining social distances due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

These classrooms are put in place to add to existing classrooms to host a population of about 2,202 students.

In addition to classrooms, the board approved the budget for the 2020/2021 school year which will cater for issues of increasing number of lecturers and other amenities for the smooth running of the year.

The session also served as a forum during which members congratulated the management body on the ground on the level of professionalism exercised in the execution of projects. They also lauded the University for its Brilliant Performance as best private higher institution at the 2020 Higher National Diploma Examination – HND with a score of 99.62% as rated by the Ministry of Higher Education.

Board members expressed satisfaction with the functioning of the institution and pledged their continuous support for the success of BUIB in particular and the St Veronica Medical Complex in general.

BUIB Students Briefed On Operations

Some two thousand students (both old and new students) of Biaka university institute of Buea BUIB have been briefed on the Do’s and Don’ts of the institution as they embraced the 2020/2021 academic year. This was during the 2020/2021 general orientation for newly admitted and returning students which served as an opportunity for new students to learn about the operations of the institution and also for returning students to remind themselves of the regulations of the university.

At this significant academic event, participants were exposed to the various sectors of the university, their operations and their benefits to students during their stay at BUIB.

While presenting the different areas of the university to students, emphasis was laid on the importance of discipline, mutual respect, self-determination and above all hard work as major aspects that lead to success.

Key areas highlighted at the orientation ceremony includes the medical services available to students, campus life, discipline and conduct of students in and out of campus, monitoring and partnering institutions , financial flow and the  registration process just to mention these few.

The event also served as an opportunity for students to meet the management body of the university. The Vice Chancellor of BUIB Dr. Mrs Francisca Hongla Biaka while welcoming the students reassured them that their choice for BUIB is the best choice. She went further to remind them of their responsibility to stay focus as students in order to achieve their vision with the support of the professionals as well as other services put at their disposal.

As the event unfolded, participants were reminded of the Novel Coronavirus pandemic which remains a health threat to all. In this light, it was reiterated that all students and staff must respect the measures put in place by the university to ensure a COVID-19 free campus.

The joy of success: graduates set for the job market.

It was another memorable day in the life of Biaka University Institute of Buea as 660 students transitioned to graduates found worthy in academics and character to face the job market. This was during the 2019 graduation ceremony of the 19th batch of students from the Institution which has been in existence since 1998. The smiles on the faces of these graduates on November 8th 2019, could only tell of the beauty that lies in hard work.

After burning the mid night candles and overcoming the challenges of recent times amidst the crisis affecting the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon, these students finally turned another page in their career and promised to uphold the values of BUIB wherever they find themselves.

Addressing the graduates at this memorable event, communication specialist; Dr. Che Tita in his capacity as Keynote speaker at the event, prescribed amongst others self dignity as paramount to these graduates as they enter another chapter of life.

The Vice Chancellor Dr. Francisca Hongla Biaka while congratulating the students for their excellent performance, reassured stakeholders of the institution’s commitment in providing quality education to its students.

It is worth mentioning that four best overall students at the Higher National Diploma (HND) examinations in Cameroon emerged from BUIB in the following fields: Pharmacy Technology, Midwifery, nursing

Allied health is second best

The ceremony pulled a crowd of dignitaries and stakeholders amongst whom was the representative of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea, the representative of the mayor of the Buea municipality, the console general of the Nigerian Consulate for the North West and South West Regions, the Delegate of Health and the Delegate of Education just to mention these few.

BUIB meets top officials of the US Embassy in Cameroon.

Officials of the American Embassy in Cameroon have lauded the contributions of Biaka University Institute of Buea in training a new breed of students in the fields of health sciences and management sciences within the institution.

This was during an executive meeting held at the US Embassy in Yaounde between the Embassy authorities and top administrators of BUIB including Prof. James Portwood, Pro-chancellor of BUIB and Prof. Cheryl Portwood of Drexel University Philadelphia USA- partner institution with BUIB.
